HC Deb 05 August 1941 vol 373 c1781
37. Sir J. Mellor

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is now able to make a statement with regard to the revision of officers' pay and allowances?

Captain Margesson

I am afraid that I am not in a position to add to the answer given to my hon. Friend the Member for Finchley (Mr. Crowther) and other hon. Members on 15th July.

Sir J. Mellor

Cannot my right hon. and gallant Friend give an explanation of this prolonged delay and some indication of when a decision may be expected?

Captain Margesson

I regret that I am not in a position to say when I can make a definite statement on this subject, which has proved to be a knotty one, but it is receiving attention, and I am hoping for a favourable outcome.

Mr. Shinwell

Does the right hon. and and gallant Gentleman mean that the Treasury have proved knotty?

Captain Margesson

No, I mean that the problem is knotty.
