HC Deb 05 August 1941 vol 373 cc1781-2
38. Sir J. Mellor

asked the Secretary of State for War, how many infantry battalions and training units have been visited by the Standing Committee on Army Administration; and with what results?

Captain Margesson

No records have been kept which would enable me to give even approximate figures of visits to units by the Standing Committee on Army Administration, but I can assure my hon. Friend that sub-committees and individual members of the main Committee have' paid many visits to infantry battalions as well as to training and other units. Indeed, a sub-committee under one of the members appointed from outside the War Office works in daily contact with units. I am abundantly satisfied that the efforts of the Committee have led to a substantial easing of the administrative burden of units and formations and that they are resulting in a progressive reduction in the volume of paper work.
