HC Deb 20 November 1940 vol 365 c1978
Mr. Hannah

asked the Secretary of State for War whether his attention has been drawn to the anxiety felt by troops about their families when they hear on the radio vague accounts of bombing near their homes; and will he arrange that all casualties shall be communicated to soldiers concerned by telephone, and so end the present sometimes long continued anxiety?

Mr. Law

I am sending my hon. Friend a copy of a recently issued statement showing the arrangements that have been made for informing members of the Forces of casualties to their near relatives. It is not practicable to make these notifications by telephone, but, when the man is serving abroad, a telegram will be sent.
