HC Deb 28 May 1940 vol 361 c412
48. Mr. Silkin

asked the Prime Minister whether he will give consideration to the appointment at an early date of the normal number of governors to the British Broadcasting Corporation?

Mr. Attlee

No, Sir. The number of governors was reduced in order to ensure a rapid and effective direction of policy under war-time conditions. In the present circumstances I can see no justification for altering present arrangements.

66. Captain Plugge

asked the Minister of Information what steps are being taken to popularise in every broadcast in foreign languages from this country, the universal effort now being made under the Emergency Powers (Defence) Act, 1940?

The Minister of Information (Mr. Duff Cooper)

The Emergency Powers (Defence) Act and its result in intensified national effort are being and will be fully publicised and explained in all the B.B.C.'s Overseas Services.
