HC Deb 30 April 1940 vol 360 cc512-3
2. Lieut.-Colonel Sir Thomas Moore

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland, in connection with the large number of service personnel at present in Scotland, what special problems have arisen with regard to licensing powers and entertainment on Sundays; and what steps have been or are to be taken to deal with these matters?

Mr. Colville

No special problems in regard to these matters have been the subject of representations to me up to the present.

Sir T. Moore

Is the Secretary of State aware that there is a strong feeling in favour of the opening of cinemas on Sundays in order to divert our troops from more doubtful entertainment; and will he consider this in any inquiries he may have with local authorities?

Mr. Colville

I have not received, as I have said, representations in that sense up to now.

Mr. Neil Maclean

Are there any more doubtful entertainments in Scotland?

Mr. Robert Gibson

Is the Secretary of State aware that on Sunday evenings in the Greenock Town Hall there are special religious services?
