HC Deb 03 October 1939 vol 351 cc1824-5
86. Mr. Salt

asked the Home Secretary whether, before deciding on the earlier closing of shops, he will give an assurance that the position of small shop keepers, often living on the same premises, whose services are of great value to those living in thickly populated areas who are especially useful during the hours affected by the black-out, since they are near at hand will be taken into consideration, as owing to the working of night shifts and increase of overtime the earlier closing of small shops during the war is likely to cause much inconvenience?

Mr. Peake

My right hon. Friend is taking into consideration the question of the small shops with all other -relevant factors.
