HC Deb 01 November 1939 vol 352 cc1913-4
26. Mr. Paling

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he has received the results of the inquiry promised by the Governor of Kenya into the question of children having been turned out of elementary schools because of their parents inability to pay the fees, and into the question of fee-paying generally; and, if so, whether he will communicate the result of the inquiry to the House?

Mr. M. MacDonald

I have not yet received the results of the inquiry, but have asked that they may be furnished to me at an early date.

Mr. Paling

This is a fairly simple question, and as four or five months have elapsed since this report was promised, ought we not, in the circumstances, to have had a result before now?

Mr. MacDonald

It involves a good deal of inquiry and consideration, and, like other matters it has had, I am afraid, to be interrupted by urgent work which the Government have had to carry out in connection with the war, but the matter has not been lost sight of.
