HC Deb 08 May 1939 vol 347 cc27-8
52. Mr. MacLaren

asked the Minister of Health whether the Oxford City Council, following the recommendation of its special open spaces committee, have now acquired, and at what price, the following lands: from Christ Church, approximately 20.272 acres adjoining Cutteslowe Park; from Brasenose College, III.221 acres at Marston; from the Head-ington United Charities, approximately 5.2 acres known as the Peat Moors, The Slade; what protests were made in the council against paying the prices at which any of these sites were offered; and whether he will state the net rateable value of each while the committee of the council was negotiating purchase?

Mr. Bernays

Loans have been sanctioned for the purchase of 17.844 acres adjoining Cuttleslowe Park for £1,570 and of III.221 acres at Marston for £9,500. I have no information with respect to these loans of the protests referred to in the second part of the question. The lands being agricultural were de-rated. The 5.2 acres known as Peat Moors have not yet been acquired by the council, who have applied for confirmation by my right hon. Friend of a compulsory purchase order in respect of the land.
