HC Deb 08 May 1939 vol 347 c27
50. Mr. Errington

asked the Minister of Health whether the estimates from local authorities for the five-year programme have been obtained; and what amount is the aggregate proposed cost thereof?

Mr. Bernays

By 4th May returns showing provisional programmes of capital expenditure covering the five years commencing 1st April, 1938, had been received from 1,752 local authorities, representing nearly three-fourths of the whole. The estimated capital cost of the works provisionally included in these programmes would be about £778,000,000.

Mr. R. C. Morrison

Can the hon. Member say to what useful purpose the Ministry are going to apply all this information now that they have got it?
