HC Deb 02 May 1939 vol 346 c1695
59. Sir Arnold Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will publish the evidence tendered to the Departmental Committee on Compensation for Card - Room Workers?

The Under-Secretary of State for the Home Department (Mr. Peake)

The statistical evidence specially obtained by the committee is dealt with at length in an appendix, and the medical evidence is summarised on pages 10 and 11 of the report. The committee has not suggested that the oral evidence taken should be published, and as at present advised my right hon. Friend does not think such publication should be necessary.

Sir A. Wilson

Will the Home Secretary be good enough to put a copy in the Library of the House and in the Rylands Library in Manchester, in view of the great scientific importance of the novel questions considered in the report?

Mr. Peake

I will certainly convey the suggestion to my right hon. Friend.

Mr. Silverman

Is the hon. Member aware that the bulk of the evidence has already been published by the trade unions concerned, who were good enough to make copies of it available to hon. Members who had sufficient interest in the matter to attend a meeting at the House?

Mr. Peake

Hon. Members will be glad of that information.
