HC Deb 02 May 1939 vol 346 cc1694-5
58. Mr. Lyons

asked the Postmaster- General the number of direct telephone lines now in operation between London and Leicester?

The Assistant Postmaster-General (Sir Walter Womersley)

There are 29 direct trunk telephone circuits between London and Leicester.

Mr. Lyons

Am I to take it that my hon. Friend will consider any representations I make if the number is insufficient in order to carry on ordinary business promptly?

Sir W. Womersley

The Departmental engineers have been engaged on Defence work and the hon. and learned Member will agree that that is the first and more important duty. We are getting somewhere in a position when we can give a little more attention to Leicester, and we will do so.
