HC Deb 29 November 1938 vol 342 cc250-1
65. Mr. Liddall

asked the Prime Minister whether he is aware that the staffs of the British consular service in various parts of Germany and Austria are unable to handle expeditiously passport, visa, and kindred applications; and will he authorise a temporary increase of these staffs so as to reduce the hardships to legitimate applicants at present unavoidable owing to the unforeseen and sudden increase of work placed upon the staffs concerned?

Mr. Butler

My Noble Friend is fully aware of the problem to which my hon. Friend refers and has been in communication with the posts concerned. I can assure my hon. Friend that every effort is being made by increasing staffs where necessary to reduce so far as possible any hardships to applicants.
