HC Deb 29 November 1938 vol 342 c250
64. Mr. De la Bère

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether, in view of the new Anglo-American Trade Agreement, he will take steps to protect the home-producers of loganberries in the Evesham district and other parts of the country against the increased American competition?

The Minister of Pensions (Mr. Rams botham)

I have been asked to reply. I would remind my hon. Friend that the home producer of loganberries will still have the benefit of a duty of 4s. per cwt. on foreign canned loganberries.

Mr. De la Bère

Is the Minister aware that in the Vale of Evesham there is a very large acreage of loganberries and that it will be disadvantageous to the prosperity of that industry if there is to he increased importation; and should not some action be taken in this matter?

Mr. Ramsbotham

In view of the well-known quality of these loganberries, I do not think there is any occasion for anxiety.
