HC Deb 14 November 1938 vol 341 c466
3. Mr. Arthur Henderson

asked the Prime Minister what reply has been sent by His Majesty's Government to Herr Hitler to the suggestion recently made by him for a limitation of armaments?

The Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs (Mr. Butler)

I am not clear what suggestion the hon. Member has in mind, but the attitude of His Majesty's Government in regard to disarmament was clearly stated by the Prime Minister on the 1st of this month.

Mr. Henderson

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that it has been freely stated in official circles in Berlin that this proposal has been put forward by Herr Hitler to the Prime Minister and that the German Government are waiting for a reply?

Mr. Butler

In that case, I think reference should be made to the Prime Minister's statement on this subject in the Debate on 1st November.
