§ Mr. AttleeWill the Prime Minister be in a position to-morrow to make a statement on Government policy in relation to international affairs, if I ask him a question?
§ The Prime MinisterNo, Sir, I do not think I shall.
§ Mr. AttleeThe Prime Minister will realise that the House was left without any very clear lead yesterday, and as it was indicated by the Under-Secretary of State that the situation would be considered and that a further statement might be made, is it clear that a statement will be made very soon?
§ The Prime MinisterI do not think my hon. Friend suggested that any statement would be made this week. I said myself that a new situation had arisen which would have to receive consideration by the Government. I should not like to commit myself to saying that I am prepared with a new cut-and-dried policy.
§ Mr. AttleeIs the Prime Minister aware that it was stated that a rapid decision would have to be made? I do not know what "rapid" means. There may be some distinction between "rapid" and "hasty." I hope that "rapid" means that there will not be a very long period of delay.
§ The Prime MinisterThe right hon. Gentleman may rest assured that the matter is under constant consideration.
§ Mr. BellengerIn view of the gravity of the statement which he made yesterday and of the appeals which were made to him from different quarters of the House for an expression of policy at a very early date, will the Prime Minister say when he imagines he will be in a position to disclose the Government's policy to the House and to the country?
§ The Prime MinisterI cannot add anything to what I have said.
