HC Deb 21 June 1938 vol 337 cc894-5
65. Mr. Davidson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland the total estimated number of persons required for air-raid precautions services in Scotland and the number of volunteers up to date?

Mr. Wedderburn

The estimated number of persons required for air-raid precautions services in Scotland, including fire precautions services, is 115,000. Information showing the number of volunteers up to date is not yet available.

Mr. Mabane

May I ask the Under-Secretary of State whether returns are being obtained for Scotland at the same time as the returns as to the number of volunteers for England?

Mr. Wedderburn

Returns are being obtained and some local authorities have quite a substantial number of volunteers, but there are seventeen authorities which have not yet told us how many volunteers they have.

Mr. Mabane

Will they have to be submitted by 31st May as in the case of England?

Mr. Davidson

Can the Under-Secretary say whether the numbers are satisfactory?
