HC Deb 05 December 1938 vol 342 c868
59. Mr. Lathan

asked the Postmaster-General whether in the placing of insurance contracts for the Post Office, the conditions customarily attaching to Government contracts in relation to fair wages and conditions are stipulated?

Major Tryon

No, Sir. The Post Office generally carries its own risks but in a few cases of leased buildings insurances are effected on the usual basis with one of the ordinary insurance companies.

Mr. Lathan

Will the Postmaster-General explain why we should discriminate between one form of contract and another in regard to the Fair Wages Clause?

Major Tryon

I am informed that the Fair Wages Clause is not appropriate for inclusion in a contract of indemnity.
