HC Deb 05 December 1938 vol 342 c869
61. Mr. Lewis

asked the Postmaster-General whether he has any statement to make on the subject of the offer by Cable and Wireless, Limited, to provide a system of wireless telegraphic and telephonic communication throughout the Colonial Empire without cost to the administrations or the peoples concerned?

Major Tryon

I understand from my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Colonies, that Cable and Wireless, Limited, have submitted proposals for the installation at their own expense, at cable stations in the Colonial Empire, of wireless sets, primarily to supplement the cable communications and for experimental purposes. My right hon. Friend is in consultation with the Colonial Governments concerned in regard to these proposals.
