HC Deb 27 April 1938 vol 335 cc123-4
38. Mr. Alan Herbert

asked the Minister for the Co-ordination of Defence whether the Committee of Imperial Defence was consulted concerning the proposal to permit oil-tankers to pass up the Thames as far as Purfleet; and whether His Majesty's Government will veto the erection of storage-tanks above ground at that place?

Sir T. Inskip

The reply to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. As to the second part, His Majesty's Government will take appropriate steps to discourage the erection of any storage-tanks contrary to the public interest.
