HC Deb 11 April 1938 vol 334 c762
52. Mrs. Tate (for Viscountess Astor)

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education how many local authorities in urban areas have provided any nursery schools in their area?

Mr. Munro (Lord of the Treasury)

I have been asked to reply. Thirty-one local education authorities maintain nursery schools in urban areas. There are 44 such schools recognised by the Board, including a few cases where the original buildings were provided by voluntary bodies. In addition, 14 other local education authorities have submitted proposals, which have been approved in principle, to provide nursery schools in urban areas.
