HC Deb 22 November 1937 vol 329 cc849-50
46. Mr. A. Henderson

asked the Prime Minister whether he will make a statement in reply to the appeal of His Majesty the King of the Belgians that His Majesty's Government should play a prominent part in the search for a solution of the world's major economic difficulties?

The Prime Minister

I am glad to have this opportunity of responding cordially on behalf of His Majesty's Government to the appeal of His Majesty the King of the Belgians, which commands their entire sympathy, and of stating that His Majesty's Government are, as they have always been, fully prepared to play their part in the search for a solution of the world's major economic difficulties.

Mr. Henderson

Is it not clear from the speech of the King of the Belgians that he is asking His Majesty's Government to take some definite, positive action?

The Prime Minister

We are taking definite, positive action.

Mr. Henderson

May I ask what the positive action is?

The Prime Minister

There is, for example, the negotiation with the Government of the United States.
