HC Deb 25 May 1937 vol 324 c105
27. Mr. Mander

asked the Minister of Health the present position with regard to the Staffordshire County Council scheme for dealing with invalids and old persons which came into operation on 1st April in Wednesfield, Willenhall, and other districts; whether a reply from the council to his letter has now been received; and whether there is yet a resident medical officer at the Wordsley institution?

Mr. R. S. Hudson

I understand that the position remains as stated in the reply given to the hon. Member's question on this subject on 8th April, and that the county council will not have an opportunity of submitting a report to my right hon. Friend until after their next meeting in July. As regards the last part of the question, I am informed that there is now a temporary medical officer resident at the Wordsley institution pending the making of a permanent appointment.

Mr. Mander

In view of the great urgency of this matter and the strong local opposition, will the hon. Gentleman do what he can to make representations to the county council?

Mr. Hudson

This is a matter primarily for the local authorities concerned.
