HC Deb 04 March 1937 vol 321 cc515-6
65. Mr. Lawson

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he is prepared to make the same financial provisions for old age pensioners as are to be provided for those in receipt of unemployment benefit and public assistance in connection with the Coronation celebrations?

Lieut.-Colonel Colville

I would refer the hon. Member to the answer given by my right hon. Friend on 19th January to the hon. Member for North Tottenham (Mr. R. C. Morrison).

Mr. Lawson

Is the Financial Secretary aware that many old age pensioners are in a worse condition than any other class in the country; and will he not give this matter serious consideration?

Lieut.-Colonel Colville

I am sorry I cannot add to the answer I have given.

Mr. Thorne

Will the Financial Secretary be good enough to ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will repay to the local authorities the pensions that they have paid?
