HC Deb 04 March 1937 vol 321 cc541-2
71. Sir G. Mitcheson

asked the Postmaster-General whether he will suggest to the British Broadcasting Corporation the desirability of the news bulletins issued by the Corporation being edited by journalists representative of the main bodies of public opinion rather than by individuals on the staff of the Corporation?

Major Tryon

This matter was closely investigated by the Ullswater Committee and the conclusion was reached that the existing arrangements were generally satisfactory and, in particular, that the editing of news should continue to be undertaken by the staff of the British Broadcasting Corporation. I do not feel justified in proposing a departure from a practice which met with the Committee's full approval.

Commander Bower

Is it not a fact that, since we started asking questions about it, they have got very very much better?
