HC Deb 21 June 1937 vol 325 c832
30. Mr. R. C. Morrison

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he will publish a schedule showing recent variations in the prices of meat, both wholesale and retail; and will he state to what cause they are attributable?

Mr. W. S. Morrison

Wholesale prices of meat are published each week in the Agricultural Market Report of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, and retail prices of certain representative cuts of meat at the beginning of each month are published in the Ministry of Labour Gazette. For the convenience of the hon. Member, I am sending him a statement showing average prices each month from January to May this year, with conesponding figures for 1936. As regards the second part of the question, the recent variations in prices, which are mainly in an upward direction, may be largely attributed to the improvement in demand.
