HC Deb 21 June 1937 vol 325 cc832-3
31. Mr. De la Bère

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether, since basic-slag manufacturers are offering special inducements for summer delivery, the necessary facilities with regard to the proposals recently announced by him will be put into operation by the- end of June?

Mr. W. S. Morrison

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given on 17th June to my hon. Friend the Member for East Fife (Mr. Henderson Stewart).

Mr. De la Bére

Does not the right hon. Gentleman think it all-important that this matter should be hurried forward without any further delay?

Mr. Morrison

It is being pressed forward without any avoidable delay, but I must have the authority of Parliament before I can do more.

Mr. Thorne

Does this basic-slag mean that the slag that comes from blast furnaces is being used for fertilizing purposes?

Mr. Morrison

The source of basic-slag is the blast furnaces used for the manufacture of steel.
