HC Deb 21 July 1937 vol 326 cc2207-8
67. Mr. Lyons

asked the Minister of Transport whether he will make a statement on his first aerial survey of the roads?

Mr. Burgin

Yes, Sir. I have recently surveyed from the air the Great North Road as far north as Alnwick, also the trunk roads from Newcastle to Carlisle and thence via Warrington and Coventry to London—a distance of 650 miles. I was able to gain a general conception of the road system more quickly and more conveniently than would otherwise have been possible, and to discuss with the Chief Engineer who accompanied me the obvious need for various improvements which are contemplated on certain sections of these routes.

Mr. Lyons

Will attention be given to me worst parts of the Great North Road as soon as possible?

Mr. J. Griffiths

Is this a new way of dodging local authorities?
