HC Deb 21 July 1937 vol 326 c2208
61. Mr. Mathers

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware of the delay to housing schemes in the county of Linlithgow caused by the dilatoriness of the Scottish Central Electric Power Company and the Scottish Midlands Electricity Supply Company, Limited, in installing electric current in such schemes; and whether he will take steps to cause them to carry out their duty in this respect without further delay?

Mr. Burgin

I cannot add to the reply given by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland to a question which the hon. Member asked yesterday.

Mr. Mathers

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the delay on the part of this company is chronic, and that tenants in completed houses are sitting in those houses using oil lamps because electricity is not available, and does not the supply of electricity fall within his province?

Mr. Burgin

Yes, Sir, electricity does fall within my province, but as the Secretary of State for Scotland said yesterday, I am inquiring into the matter from the Electricity Commissioners.
