HC Deb 21 July 1937 vol 326 c2201
52. Mr. Noel-Baker

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether, under the agreement recently concluded with the Italian Government, Italian nationals are allowed to engage in the construction and repair of roads in British Somaliland; and, if so, what is the purpose of this arrangement?

Mr. Ormsby-Gore

No, Sir. Such road works as are necessary in British Somaliland to facilitate the passage of transit traffic will be carried out by the Government of the Protectorate with local labour. The second part of the question does not, therefore, arise.
