HC Deb 25 February 1937 vol 320 c2191
80. Sir N. Grattan-Doyle

asked the Postmaster-General whether, in view of the practice of certain foreign broadcasting stations of broadcasting propaganda and news for the benefit of listeners in the British Empire in languages other than English, he will cause the British Broadcasting Corporation to broadcast items in its Empire programme in languages besides English which are spoken in the British Empire?

The Assistant Postmaster-General (Sir Walter Womersley)

The general question of a departure from the present practice, whereby all programmes broadcast from the Empire station at Daventry are in English, is under consideration, but the matter is by no means free from difficulties. I will bring my hon. Friend's suggestion to the notice of the British Broadcasting Corporation, who will, I am sure, examine it most carefully.
