HC Deb 25 February 1937 vol 320 cc2190-1
77. Mr. David Adams

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware that the Northumberland County Council propose to recondition part of the main road, A 69, which passes through the Haltwhistle area, and that the council have expressed their willingness to support the scheme by bearing such proportion of the cost as is not covered by the grant until 31st March; and whether, in view of the high incidence of unem- ployment in that area, he will have the scheme commenced without delay?

Captain Hudson

This scheme is for the construction of a new road, four miles in length, as a diversion of the existing road (A 69) between Henshaw and Halt-whistle, at an estimated cost of £212,000. This scheme is being considered in conjunction with other schemes in the area of equal or greater traffic importance, and my right hon. Friend is not yet in a position to say when it can be approved for commencement.
