HC Deb 15 February 1937 vol 320 c838
51. Mr. V. Adams

asked the Minister of Health whether, where house property is to be cleared in accordance with the requirements of the Housing Acts, he will allow an appeal on its fitness for human habitation to a tribunal independent of the officials of the Ministry?

Mr. R. S. Hudson

The issue involved in my hon. Friend's question was exhaustively discussed during the passage of the Housing Act, 1935, and my right hon. Friend sees no reason for reopening the question at the present time.

Mr. Adams

Is the hon. Member not aware that without a free vote in this House no fewer than 45 Members on a Friday sitting, who usually support the Government, voted in favour of an independent tribunal? Is he further aware of the widespread resentment amongst property owners at the present situation? If he cannot answer, will he not agree that they are entitled to have their property treated judicially, and not by official servants of the Ministry?

Mr. Hudson

I have nothing to add to the answer I have given.
