HC Deb 11 February 1937 vol 320 c569
33. Mr. Parker

asked the Home Secretary what steps the Government propose to take to bring about a more equable distribution of constituencies, in view of the fact that the Romford Division now possesses 178,000 electors, and that there are many other divisions with swollen electorates?

Mr. Lloyd

I would refer the hon. Member to the answer given to the hon. Member for Birkenhead, East (Mr. White) on 23rd November last.

Mr. Parker

Will it not be possible to give Members who represent large constituencies an extra vote for every 60,000 electors that they have?

Sir John Mellor

Is the readjustment of county boundaries under the Local Government Act, 1929, yet complete?

Mr. Lloyd

Yes, it is, but there are certain sequelae to take place.
