HC Deb 16 November 1936 vol 317 c1333
64. Mr. CARTLAND

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he will consider the opening in Birmingham of a branch of His Majesty's Stationery Office.

Lieut.-Colonel COLVILLE

My hon. Friend's 'suggestion would involve additional expense which could not be regarded as justified by the results.

Mr. CARTLAND

Is any hon. and gallant Friend aware of the growing demand in the City of Birmingham for a branch of the Stationery Office, and, in view of the importance of this city, will he reconsider it?

Lieut.-Colonel COLVILLE

That matter has been gone into carefully, and I cannot add to the answer.

Mr. H. G. WI LLIAMS

Is it the assumption that any Government establishment is bound to be run at a loss?

Lieut.-Colonel COLVILLE

No; the hon. Member knows the functions of the Stationery Office.
