asked the Secretary for Mines the number of collieries working in the County of Durham during the months of March, 1930 and 1936; also the numbers of persons employed on the same dates?

During March, 1936, 204 pits were at work in the County of Durham, and the average number of wage-earners on colliery books was 108,300. The corresponding figures for March, 1930, were 253 and 142,200.
