HC Deb 14 May 1936 vol 312 c538
20. Mr. BERNAYS

asked the Home Secretary whether in view of the recent disturbances outside prisons on the day of an execution, he will consider the introduction of legislation to amend Clause 7 of the Capital Punishment Act, 1868, under which it is laid down that he must make known the time and place of such executions?

Sir J. SIMON

I do not think it would be practicable to adopt my hon. Friend's suggestion.

Mr. BENSON

Does not the right hon. Gentleman think that the simplest method would be to abolish the death sentence?
