HC Deb 16 March 1936 vol 310 c42
97. Mr. KIRKPATRICK

asked the Minister of Transport the amount of annual tax levied on a petrol or other power driven bath-chair, as used by cripples or invalids, including ex-service disabled men; what is the total annual income derived from taxes levied on such bath-chairs; and whether he will see his way to exempt all such bath-chairs, or similar vehicles, from all taxation?

Captain HUDSON

The answer to the first part of the question is 5s. and to the second part about £400. The last part is a matter for my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Mr. KIRKPATRICK

Will the hon. and gallant Member represent to the Chancellor of the Exchequer the very small amount that is realised from this tax and the great value such an exemption would be to these people who have to pay it. Will he press upon the Chancellor of the Exchequer the desirability of removing this absurd tax which brings in only £400 a year?

Captain HUDSON

Perhaps the hon. Member would put a question to the Chancellor of the Exchequer on that aspect of the matter.
