HC Deb 02 March 1936 vol 309 c976
3. Mr. GALLACHER

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether he will make a statement to the House regarding the present situation in Burma; what is the number of political prisoners in the gaols; whether the strike in the Kamayut hosiery works near Rangoon has been settled and, if so, on what terms; and whether the right of trade union organisation is restricted in Burma and, if so, to what extent?

Mr. BUTLER

The present situation in Burma is satisfactory. I am not sure what the hon. Member has in mind by the term "political prisoners," but there are no Civil Disobedience prisoners in Burma. I have no information about the strike in the Kamayut hosiery works. There are no restrictions on bona fide trade union organisation in Burma.
