HC Deb 02 July 1936 vol 314 cc589-90
12. Mr. LECKIE

asked the Minister of Labour whether he has considered a resolution submitted to him by the National Federation of Professional Workers urgently requesting the Government to extend the provision of unemployment insurance so as to include non-manual workers whose earnings do not exceed £400 per annum, as recommended by the Unemployment Insurance Statutory Committee in February last; and what action he proposes to take in the matter?

Mr. E. BROWN

I received the day before yesterday the resolution to which my hon. Friend refers. I am afraid that it is not yet possible to make any statement as to the Government's intentions in this matter.

Mr. LAWSON

Can the right hon. Gentleman say when there will be a possibility of getting a statement from him?

Mr. BROWN

Not at the moment.

Mr. LAWSON

Has the right hon. Gentleman received the report?

Mr. BROWN

It is being examined by the various Departments which are concerned in the matter.
