§ 20. Sir WALTER SMILESasked the President of the Board of Trade what are the numbers of yards of cotton piece-goods imported from this country into Egypt and into the Anglo-Egyptian Sudan for the six months ended 30th November, 1936, or to the nearest convenient date?
§ Mr. RUNCIMANDuring the six months ended November, 1936, the exports from this country of cotton piece-goods of United Kingdom manufacture registered as consigned to Egypt amounted to 31,370,000 square yards and to the Anglo-Egyptian Sudan, 1,065,000 square yards.
§ Sir W. SMILESAre the conditions of entry of cotton goods into Egypt and the Anglo-Egyptian Sudan the same, and can the right hon. Gentleman say whether the reason for the small exports to the Anglo-Egyptian Sudan is due to Japanese competition?
§ Mr. RUNCIMANI cannot answer that question without notice.
