HC Deb 30 April 1936 vol 311 cc1076-7
29. Mr. CREECH JONES

asked the President of the Board of Education whether, in view of the considerable and growing opinion in favour of a spread-over of school summer holidays with schools in different parts of the country closing at different times, he will suggest to local education authorities that they consider the matter with a view to their easing the August holiday congestion?

Mr. STANLEY

The fixing of school holidays is a matter which lies within the discretion of the local education authorities, and I believe that it is already the general practice of authorities to adjust the school holidays to local needs.
