HC Deb 06 June 1935 vol 302 c2031
Mr. GUY

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury, in view of the fact that women are invited to apply for a vacancy in the Edinburgh branch of the solicitor's department of the Inland Revenue, why there is any differentiation in pay offered to women and men candidates, since both have to have the same legal qualifications?

Mr. COOPER

The differentiation in pay is in accordance with general Civil Service practice.

Mr. GUY

How can my hon. Friend reconcile his reply with the terms of the Sex Disqualification Act?

Viscountess ASTOR

Will my hon. Friend give us an answer to that question, particularly as there are so many Members of the Cabinet on the Front Bench to day, and they are all pledged to it?

Mr. COOPER

I understand that there will be an opportunity of discussing this question tomorrow.

Viscountess ASTOR

Would it not be better to get an answer out of the Front Bench to-day?
