HC Deb 05 June 1935 vol 302 cc1861-2
50. Mr. GARDNER

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he can now make any statement with reference to setting up, in connection with the preparations foreshadowed for national defence and the possible danger om incendiary attacks from the air, a committee to consider some scheme or schemes for bringing all fire brigades in England and Wales up to an approved standard of efficiency and inter-linking them without regard for local boundaries, together with steps in conjunction with local authorities in whose areas adequate fire extinguishing appliances to meet an emergency do not at present exist, for the provisions of the appliances to meet their probable needs?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT(Sir John Gilmour)

I regret I am not yet in a position to add anything to the reply which I gave to the hon. Member on the 29th April last.

Mr. GARDNER

Will the right hon. Gentleman be able to make a statement after the Parliamentary Recess?

Sir J. GILMOUR

Oh, yes. I hope some progress may be made by then.
