HC Deb 05 June 1935 vol 302 c1862
57. Major-General Sir ALFRED KNOX

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office whether Colonel Dawnay is now to return to military employment or whether he is retired; and, in the former case, whether Army regulations admit of the seconding of an officer for employment in the British Broadcasting Corporation?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the WAR OFFICE(Mr. Douglas Hacking)

Colonel Dawnay will return from half-pay to military employment on full-pay on 19th October next. It is permissible for an officer who is unemployed and on half-pay to accept employment with the British Broadcasting Corporation.

Sir A. KNOX

Is it not a fact that Colonel Dawnay is still on the regimental establishment? How then can he be on half-pay?

Mr. HACKING

He is on half-pay at the present time.

Lieut.-Colonel ACLAND-TROYTE

Is not work with the British Broadcasting Corporation a good training for commanding a regiment?

Sir A. KNOX

Is this good training for military employment?
