HC Deb 05 June 1935 vol 302 c1861
49. Mr. N. MACLEAN

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he can state the number of insurance companies whose financial condition he has investigated in accordance with the powers under the Act of 1933?

Dr. BURGIN

Three, Sir.

Mr. MACLEAN

Can the House have a copy of any report that has been made as to the results of the inquiries that have been made into these three companies?

Dr. BURGIN

I think all these three winding-up orders are public orders, and there will be information in the public Press with regard to each of the three companies in due course. I do not think there is as yet any report which I can communicate to the hon. Member, but I will bear his suggestion in mind.

Mr. MACLEAN

Do the particulars obtained from the inquiries into these three companies justify the Department in bringing about an alteration in the law?

Dr. BURGIN

There is no question at all about that. The results of the inquiries into these three companies do show that some alteration in the law could profitably be made.
