HC Deb 20 February 1935 vol 298 c345
45. Mr. RHYS DAVIES

asked the Postmaster-General whether he can state the number of telegrams referring to lotteries that have been held up during the past 12 months?

Sir E. BENNETT

It would, I think, be contrary to the public interest to give the information for which the hon. Gentleman asks.

HON. MEMBERS

Why?

Sir WILLIAM DAVISON

Why should it be contrary to the public interest The question does not ask for any particular telegrams. Surely the House ought to know how many telegrams have been held up.

Mr. DAVIES

Will the hon. Gentleman go into this matter again and see whether we cannot have this information, because it does not appear clear to the House that it is wrong to give the information?

Sir W. BRASS

Is it not a fact that the Post Office has lost on telegrams for many years?
