HC Deb 29 November 1934 vol 295 cc988-9
9. Captain CUNNINGHAM-REID

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will state the total number of police cells in England and Wales; how many of these cells he has certified as suitable for short sentences of detention under the Criminal Justice Administration Act, 1914; and whether he is proposing to take steps to increase the number of cells of the standard conformable to his certificate?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Captain Crookshank)

I regret that figures are not available which would enable me to answer the first and second parts of the question. As regards the third part, advantage is taken of every opportunity that offers of securing the improvement of cell accommodation at police stations.
