HC Deb 21 June 1934 vol 291 cc548-9
59. Mr. MACLEAN

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland the decrease in population in the counties of Argyll, Inverness, Ross and Cromarty, Sutherland, Caithness, and Perth in the last 30 years?

Mr. SKELTON

As the answer involves a number of figures I propose with the hon. Member's permission to circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Following is the answer:

graphy of the Palace of Westminster, which was presented by a private individual and not by any commercial undertaking. My right hon. Friend, the First Commissioner of Works, is not aware that any of the heraldic details are incorrect and, inasmuch as Mr. E. E. Dorling, who is recognised as the leading heraldic authority, advised the artist, he would be surprised to learn that mistakes exist. Nevertheless, if my hon. Friend will let him know of any details he conceives to be incorrect, he will be happy to cause the matter to be further investigated.

Mr. MABANE

Is it not a fact that the arms attributed to Stephen, Henry II, Henry IV and Richard II are in conflict with the views of the leading heraldic authorities?

Mr. BLINDELL

I have said that my right hon. Friend will further investigate the matter if the hon. Member says that the arms are not in order.

Lieut.-Commander AGNEW

Has this print been officially inspected by the Earl Marshall or members of his staff?

Mr. PIKE

Will the First Commissioner appoint a referee on this subject?
