HC Deb 21 June 1934 vol 291 c549
52. Sir COOPER RAWSON

asked the Minister of Transport if he is aware that in France motor lorries weighing three tons or more are compelled to carry equipment by means of which the sound of the horn of overtaking vehicles is amplified electrically in the driving compartment of the lorry; and if, in view of the number of accidents caused by overtaking when there is not sufficient room to pass or a clear view ahead, he will consider introducing regulations for similar equipment in this country for heavy lorries and lorries with trailers?

Lieut.-Colonel HEADLAM

This requirement in France had already been brought to my hon. Friend's notice and he is having tests made of this type of equipment. On the evidence at present before him he is not satisfied that it would be in the public interest to make its use compulsory, but any developments will be carefully watched.
