HC Deb 21 June 1934 vol 291 cc547-8
50. Mr. MABANE

asked the First Commissioner of Works if his attention has been called to the fact that on the coloured print in the St. Stephen's porch the arms of some of the Kings of England are incorrectly displayed; and if he will take steps to have this altered and also to prevent similar solecisms being committed in future in the Palace of Westminster at the instance of private commercial undertakings?

Mr. BLINDELL (Lord of the Treasury)

I have been asked to reply. My hon. Friend is presumably referring to the oil painting representing the topowithdrawn. The total number of applicants still on the list is 8,953.

Mr. MACLEAN

Were any reasons given by those who have withdrawn then-applications, and can the hon. Member give them?

Mr. SKELTON

I should require notice of that question.

Mr. KIRKWOOD

Is it not the fact that they have withdrawn because they have got fed up with waiting?
